Description
⭐ Species Overview
Powder Isopods (Porcellionides pruinosus) are an excellent isopod species for bioactive enclosures, cleanup crews, and hobbyist collections. This species thrives in all but the driest setups and does well with reptiles or as a sand alone colonies. This is a mix of multiple colors and includes (and will continue to throw) powder blue, powder orange, orange cream, oreo crumble, white, and maybe even red koi and powder pink.
⭐ Care Requirements
Powder isopods are going to do best with a moisture gradient. You want about 1/3 of their bin to be moist with moss. The humidity on this size should be 50 to 70%. If you are adding powders to a bioactive enclosure you will want to create a moisture zone. We do this by putting moss around the water dish and tucked into a few spots on the cool side of the enclosure. This method works well for semi-arid enclosures as well as more tropical ones.
Recommended diet: You want the enclosure to contain a number of items that are good for isopods to eat. This should be the main diet of your isopods. This includes leaf litter, moss, wood rot, seed pods, and bark. These things should be mixed into the substrate. You can supplementally feed commercial isopod foods, fish foods, and veggie scraps. If you are trying to optimize how quickly they breed it is recommended to feed small amounts twice a week.
⭐ What You Receive
Your isopods come cup-packed in moss to keep them safe in transit. We always include a small overcount.
