Tricolor Hognose Snakes
Last fall, I added a delightful pair of Western hognose snakes to my collection, and they quickly stole my heart. Recently, I had the opportunity to acquire a pair of tricolor hognoses, and I couldn't contain my excitement. To be honest, I had envisioned them as Western hognoses with a different color pattern, but they turned out to be quite distinct. With their smooth and silky scales, they differ from the keeled scales of Western hognoses, and they tend to be more timid. What surprised me the most was their behavior of rattling their tails when feeling stressed. However, with time and care, I'm thrilled to have earned their trust to the point where I can handle them without triggering their tail rattling. Looking ahead, I can't wait for this pair to reach breeding age next year and share their precious offspring with fellow reptile enthusiasts.
Meet this captivating girl who holds a special place in my heart. Though she's yet to be named, her presence is truly remarkable. As a dark phase tricolor hognose snake, she undergoes a fascinating transformation with every shed. Gradually, her red coloring fades away, and by next year, she will exhibit striking black and white striping. It's a journey of beauty and change that I'm privileged to witness.
