Gecko Showdown: Crested Vs Gargoyle - My Personal Thoughts
Hey there, gecko enthusiasts! In my last blog post, we explored the epic showdown between Crested Geckos and Gargoyle Geckos, covering all the essential factors to consider. But I didn't spill the beans on my personal favorite. Well, today's the day!
Let's take a quick trip down memory lane to understand why I lean towards one gecko species over the other.
Back in 2020, I first crossed paths with Crested Geckos at a reptile show. Holding that soft, adult Crested Gecko was a magical moment. I was smitten, but my wallet and reptile knowledge had other plans.
The following year, a visit to The Reptarium in Michigan introduced me to a spirited, juvenile Gargoyle Gecko. It bit my son (he proudly claimed to have been bitten by a dragon), but the experience didn't sway me toward Gargoyle Geckos. I remained steadfast in my Crested Gecko affection.
Fast forward to March 2022 when I welcomed my first gecko into my life—a baby Crested Gecko named Splat (yes, named after her bouncy tendencies). I adored Splat, though I mistakenly believed she was a boy at first.
As I dove into the world of gecko breeding, I contemplated my choice of species. Breeding Crested Geckos seemed appealing, but with concerns about oversaturation in the market, I opted for Gargoyle Geckos.
My first dozen Gargoyle Geckos stole my heart. They combined the advantages of Crested Geckos with unique characteristics: less common, easier to handle, and the ability to regrow their tails.
Over time, I acquired a bunch of Crested Geckos when I purchased a breeder's collection. While Crested Geckos are undeniably soft and possess jumping prowess, it's the chill nature of Gargoyle Geckos that won me over.
If I had to choose just one, I'd pick Gargoyle Geckos. Fortunately, I don't have to, as I cherish them both.
One peculiar note: I seem to be allergic to Crested Geckos. Their nail scratches leave itchy welts, a quirk shared by a friend. Oddly enough, Gargoyle Geckos don't trigger this reaction.
In the end, it's a personal journey of gecko love, and I'm grateful to have both species in my life. Below are my two favorite geckos, Pin the gargoyle gecko and Snowflake the crested gecko.
