Description

⭐ Species Overview

Panda King Isopods (Cubaris sp “Panda King”) are a great beginner collector’s isopod. They don’t breed as fast as many species that are recommended as cleanup crews, but can be used in humid bioactive enclosures. This species requires more humidity than many other species and it is recommended only for humid love reptiles such as crested geckos or for single species terrariums or bins. These cute little isopods have an adorable face (they are a relative of the rubber ducky) and a cool black and white pattern.

⭐ Care Requirements

Panda Kings are going to do best with a moisture gradient, but you want about 2/3 of the enclosure to be moist. You want about 1/3 of their bin to be moist with moss. The humidity on this size should be 70 to 80%. If you are adding panda kings to a bioactive enclosure you want it to be to a species that requires at least 50% humidity. Remember that your 70 to 80% humidity is going to be on your moist side so can be achieved in a terrarium with a moisture zone. We do this by putting moss around the water dish and tucked into a few spots on the cool side of the enclosure.

Recommended diet: You want the enclosure to contain a number of items that are good for isopods to eat. This should be the main diet of your isopods. This includes leaf litter, moss, wood rot, seed pods, and bark. These things should be mixed into the substrate. Panda kings (and other Cubaris) do well with added limestone to the enclosure. You can supplementally feed commercial isopod foods, fish foods, and veggie scraps. If you are trying to optimize how quickly they breed it is recommended to feed small amounts twice a week.
